HARIANEXPRESS – Memorizing Pancasila is crucial for shaping student character and fostering national spirit within Indonesian education.

Education in schools extends beyond academic achievement, playing a vital role in forming character and preparing students for the future.

To achieve these goals, Pancasila teachings must be integrated into every educational process, with teachers responsible for guiding students to understand, recognize, and memorize its five principles.

A journal by Declarista Salwa Putri and colleagues, titled “The Importance of Instilling Pancasila Values in Fourth-Grade Students in Elementary Schools,” outlines four primary reasons for this emphasis.

Firstly, Pancasila serves as the nation’s worldview, embodying fundamental values essential for community life, nationhood, and statehood.

Secondly, Pancasila is the source of all legal frameworks in Indonesia, ensuring that every state policy and regulation is anchored in its inherent values.

Thirdly, it functions as a guide for daily behavior within both school and societal environments, promoting respectful attitudes and harmony among individuals.

Finally, Pancasila reflects the inherent identity and personality of the Indonesian nation, shaping a distinct national character.

Consistent implementation of Pancasila values is necessary for them to become ingrained habits among students.

According to the same journal, several methods are used to apply these values in school learning activities.

For the first Sila, “Ketuhanan Yang Maha Esa” (Belief in the One and Only God), students are accustomed to praying before and after lessons to strengthen religious values.

The second Sila, “Kemanusiaan yang Adil dan Beradab” (Just and Civilized Humanity), is applied through teachers setting examples of fairness and instilling politeness and mutual respect.

Implementation of the third Sila, “Persatuan Indonesia” (The Unity of Indonesia), involves group work and mutual cooperation activities, such as community service to clean the school environment.

Meanwhile, the fourth Sila, “Kerakyatan yang Dipimpin oleh Hikmat Kebijaksanaan dalam Permusyawaratan/Perwakilan” (Democracy Guided by the Inner Wisdom in the Unanimity Arising Out of Deliberations Amongst Representatives), is realized by providing students opportunities to express opinions, engage in discussions, and respect the outcomes of deliberation.

Lastly, the fifth Sila, “Keadilan Sosial bagi Seluruh Rakyat Indonesia” (Social Justice for All Indonesian People), is implemented by fairly distributing awards or appreciation based on each student’s effort and achievements.

This comprehensive cultivation of Pancasila values is expected to foster future generations with strong character, committed to the nation’s noble principles, and dedicated to upholding harmony and progress.
