HARIANEXPRESS – The Depok City Education Office (Disdik) is highlighting the importance of limiting gadget use, following an increase in vision problems among elementary school students in Depok. This concern emerged after cases were identified at SDN Tapos 4 on Wednesday, 29/7/2026.
PGI Kota Depok conducted a social service event at SDN Tapos 4 in Tapos District, providing free eye examinations and spectacles. The activity detected students with nearsightedness (minus) up to three diopters, while several others exhibited astigmatism.
Muchamad Zakky Fauzan, Head of the Primary School Development Division at Depok City Disdik, stated that electronic device usage, such as mobile phones and televisions, is a significant contributing factor. He emphasized the necessity of active parental involvement in supervising gadget use at home.
Zakky stressed the need to limit screen time for children to maintain optimal eye health. He added that the impact of gadgets is substantial, with many elementary students already experiencing nearsightedness and astigmatism.
“Kalau memang bisa dibatasi, ya dibatasi. Ternyata dampaknya cukup besar.
The ability to see clearly significantly helps students absorb learning materials effectively. This directly and positively impacts their academic performance at school.
Depok Disdik is also open to collaboration with various parties interested in contributing through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs or other social activities. This assistance is crucial because state schools are not permitted to charge fees to parents or students.
Leveraging CSR programs is expected to reach more students needing support for their eye health. This initiative aims to ensure optimal vision for the future generation in Depok City.
