HARIANEXPRESS – Minister Abdul Mu’ti addressed the low new student enrollment at public elementary schools for the 2026/2027 academic year. He announced plans to discuss joint policies with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) confirmed that his ministry has identified schools with minimal student numbers. This mapping was conducted using the Data Pokok Pendidikan (Dapodik) system.
This comprehensive data will serve as a crucial foundation for crafting collaborative policy solutions with other relevant ministries. Minister Mu’ti emphasized that the Kemendikdasmen cannot manage this challenge independently.
“Soal sedikitnya siswa di beberapa SD negeri, ini memang menjadi perhatian kami lintas kementerian. Kami sudah ada pendataan berdasarkan Dapodik, sekolah-sekolah yang muridnya di bawah 100, di bawah 60 orang,” ujar Abdul Mu’ti.
Consequently, the Kemendikdasmen has initiated coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri). Mu’ti stated that a joint meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs will be held soon.
“Kami sudah sampaikan ke Kementerian Dalam Negeri. Nanti kita akan rapat bersama dengan Pak Mendagri untuk membicarakan arah kebijakan ke depan untuk sekolah-sekolah yang muridnya sangat sedikit,” he explained.
The minister highlighted the necessity of drafting a specific policy framework for these underpopulated schools. He stressed that any solution for public elementary schools with low enrollment cannot be solely decided by Kemendikdasmen.
“Kebijakan ini akan kita buat bersama-sama (dengan pemerintah daerah dan Kemendagri) supaya tidak menimbulkan masalah di masyarakat,” Mu’ti stated.
This collaborative approach, involving local governments and Kemendagri, is crucial. It aims to ensure that the new policy is widely accepted and does not create unforeseen issues within the community.
