HARIANEXPRESS – The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Malang Regency has distributed clean water to seven drought-stricken villages across six sub-districts, (30/8/2026)
Two villages in Kecamatan Kalipare, namely Desa Sukowilangun and Desa Kalirejo, are currently experiencing a clean water crisis due to drought. To address this urgent situation, the BPBD Kabupaten Malang deployed water tanks to each affected village.
Sadono Irawan, Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Kabupaten Malang, confirmed on Sunday (30/8) that these two villages faced a clean water shortage. This action followed requests from local village officials for assistance, which prompted an assessment and subsequent clean water distribution.
The assessment focused on determining the number of affected residents, the required number of tanks, and suitable placement points. Desa Kalirejo, for instance, lacks proximity to large or small rivers and does not have sufficient water sources for its inhabitants.
Residents previously relied on wells for their clean water needs, but most of these wells have now dried up or stopped producing water. In response, BPBD distributed four water tanks, each with a capacity of 1,200 liters, across the affected Kalipare region.
“Lalu Desa Tumpakrejo, Kecamatan Gedangan, Desa Karangkates, Kecamatan Sumberpucung, dan Desa Sumberoto, Kecamatan Donomulyo sebanyak 642.800 liter air telah didistribusikan,” ujar Sadono Irawan.
In total, BPBD Kabupaten Malang has recorded seven villages impacted by drought, spread across six sub-districts, requiring clean water provisions. Previously, clean water aid was also delivered to residents in Desa Sumberagung and Kedungbanteng in Kecamatan Sumbermanjing Wetan.
Meanwhile, an assessment for Desa Sukowilangun is still underway to determine the exact number of affected residents and the estimated quantity of tanks needed. This ongoing process helps tailor the distribution efforts effectively across the region.
