HARIANEXPRESS – The Banyuwangi Shrimp Fiesta 2026, held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, successfully drew participation from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM), the restaurant industry, and hotels.
The event, aimed at boosting seafood consumption, particularly shrimp, in Banyuwangi, featured various educational and entertainment activities. These included a Chef Challenge and Culinary Presentation, a Business Corner for industry networking, a large-scale shrimp dish preparation, and an Education Zone focusing on aquaculture and fisheries consumption.
Attendees were treated to free servings of various shrimp-based dishes throughout the event. The festival received full support from shrimp farmers, the banking sector, Shrimp Club Indonesia (SCI), and Konservasi Indonesia.
Suryono Bintang Samudra, Head of the Banyuwangi Fisheries Agency, stated that the event is expected to increase shrimp consumption in the region. He also emphasized the event’s financial independence, noting, “It needs to be known that this event is zero APBN and is fully supported by sponsors.” Budiati Prasetiamartati (Dias), Ocean Program Director at Konservasi Indonesia, affirmed the event’s benefit in enhancing shrimp consumption.
Banyuwangi currently ranks second in East Java for shrimp consumption, following Sumenep Regency.
