HARIANEXPRESS – The Blitar Regency Government has officially declared a three-month Drought Disaster Emergency Status to tackle the expanding clean water crisis. This significant measure, effective from July 20 to October 20, 2026, was enacted through the Blitar Regent’s Decree Number B/180.05/227/409.1.2/KPTS/2026.
The declaration, formalized on Monday, August 10, 2026, aims to accelerate the handling of the severe clean water shortages impacting numerous communities. It provides a strong legal basis for mobilizing essential aid and fulfilling basic water needs for residents.
Blitar Regency Grapples with Widespread Water Shortages
Field assessments by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Blitar Regency reveal that the clean water crisis has struck several critical points. Specifically, it affects Tugurejo and Sukorejo villages in Wates District, Panggungduwet village in Kademangan District, and Sumberagung village in Panggungrejo District.
Overall, the BPBD Blitar’s vulnerability map indicates that seven districts within Blitar Regency are categorized as prone to meteorological drought during this dry season. This widespread issue necessitated the swift action by the local government.
Tactical Steps for Crisis Management
The Blitar Regency Government, through its BPBD, has asserted its full readiness to respond to the situation on the ground. Response efforts are being conducted in collaboration with village and sub-district governments.
“We continuously monitor the situation with village and sub-district governments. If any area requires clean water assistance, we immediately conduct assessments and distribute supplies as needed,” said Wahyudi, Head of Executive (Kalaksa) BPBD Kabupaten Blitar.
Clean water distribution is ongoing, utilizing tanker trucks to supply affected residents gradually throughout the emergency period. These tactical measures also align with the Meteorological Drought Early Warning issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for the early August 2026 period (Dasarian I August 2026).
Regional Context: East Java’s Broader Drought
The drought crisis in Blitar is not an isolated incident but rather part of a larger regional phenomenon affecting East Java. As of early August, a total of 19 regencies and cities across East Java have declared drought disaster emergency statuses.
Among these, 16 areas are under an Alert status, while three regions, including Blitar Regency, have elevated their status to Emergency Response. This highlights the extensive nature of the drought impact across the province.
