HARIANEXPRESS – The Indonesian government is actively working to position the nation as a significant player in the global content industry. This strategic initiative aims to promote local culture, characters, and stories through creative works that can achieve international market penetration.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized this goal during the launch of Nusantara Rising in Jakarta on Friday. The movement was initiated by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
“We do not want Indonesia to merely become a market for global content; it must become a content powerhouse,”
Minister Harsya stated at the event. He believes that Indonesia possesses a wealth of culture, talent, and creativity, which presents substantial potential as an economic strength and a source of global influence.
Unlocking Indonesia’s Creative Potential
The government and various stakeholders are urged to harness this potential effectively. The objective is to ensure that Indonesian creative works contribute significantly to national identity, pride, and broader economic benefits.
Developing the creative economy sector necessitates strong collaboration among key entities. These include the government, businesses, academia, media, and local communities.
Furthermore, achieving the status of a content powerhouse requires a robust creative economy ecosystem. This specifically involves providing financing opportunities for creators who possess established business models and require capital for expansion.
Minister Harsya hopes that the Nusantara Rising initiative will facilitate access to financing for economy players. This will occur through co-production and co-investment schemes, aimed at expanding their reach in terms of capital, technology, and markets, both domestically and internationally.
Kadin’s Nusantara Rising: Boosting Cultural Influence
On Friday, Kadin officially launched “Nusantara Rising: Indonesia’s Collective Soft Power Movement.” This collaborative effort is designed to strengthen the global influence of Indonesian culture.
According to Rahayu Saraswati, Kadin Deputy Chairperson for Culture, this initiative serves as a direct follow-up to the Indonesia Soft Power Paper. Kadin developed this paper in collaboration with industry players and various stakeholders.
Saraswati highlighted Indonesia’s immense cultural diversity, which encompasses thousands of ethnic groups and traditions. The nation also boasts hundreds of regional languages and a wide array of folklore, music, dance, cuisine, and tourism attractions.
She emphasized that cultural heritage transcends mere identity; it acts as a vital resource. This resource can stimulate creativity, foster economic growth, and amplify global influence.
The creative economy, she added, plays a crucial role in transforming this abundant cultural wealth. It converts it into significant economic and global value.
