HARIANEXPRESS – In a significant event coinciding with the 81st Indonesian Independence Day, 127 child inmates at Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) Kelas I Blitar, East Java, were granted sentence reductions or remission on Monday, August 17, 2026. Among them, nine child inmates received Remisi Umum II, leading to their immediate release.

This announcement brought welcome news for the children, marking a special occasion during the national celebration. The remaining 118 child inmates received Remisi Umum I, resulting in a reduction of their prison sentences by one to three months.

Remission Process and Administrative Challenges

LPKA Blitar initially proposed 138 child inmates to receive remission for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day. However, only 127 of these proposals were ultimately approved due to administrative constraints.

The institution currently houses a total of 177 child inmates. Head of LPKA Kelas I Blitar, Jaka Prihatin, elaborated on the challenges faced in the remission process.

“Because of administrative issues, out of the 138 child inmates we proposed, only 127 were approved for remission on the 81st Indonesian Independence Day,” Jaka Prihatin said.

These administrative issues included delays in the issuance of court verdict documents, which are essential prerequisites. Child inmates lacking complete court documents could not be nominated for remission.

“In the remission proposal, there are required documents; if the child inmate’s required documents are incomplete, they cannot be proposed for remission,” he added.

Jaka further emphasized that remission is a fundamental right for eligible child inmates. This process ensures that those who meet the specified criteria can benefit from sentence reductions.

“This remission is a right for child inmates who have met the requirements,” Jaka stated.
