HARIANEXPRESS – Blitar Mayor Syauqul Muhibbin expressed his appreciation to the central government for establishing the People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) in Blitar City. He also called on parents not to be concerned about their children studying at the new educational institution.

This initiative aims to provide comprehensive learning and support for students, marking a significant step for the city’s educational landscape.

People’s School Program Expands Across Indonesia

As of August 2026, the central government has constructed 182 People’s Schools throughout Indonesia, spanning from Aceh to Papua. These schools collectively serve approximately 43,000 students across elementary, junior high, and senior high levels.

Romal Sinaga, the PIC for Blitar City’s People’s School from the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), shared this information during the opening of the school’s environment introduction period (MPLS) at the Integrated People’s School 2 in Blitar City, East Java, on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Focus on Character and Future Opportunities

Romal explained that the People’s School program is in its second year nationally, with Blitar City participating for the first time. The curriculum extends beyond academics, emphasizing character education, talent development, and essential student skills.

This holistic approach is intended to secure the students’ future prospects. He encouraged the Blitar City Government to continually oversee the process to ensure the school remains ‘on the track’.

“We hope the Blitar City Government continues to oversee this process so that the People’s School remains on the track,” Romal Sinaga stated, as reported by Tribun Jatim.

Graduates of the People’s School who achieve high academic performance will receive assistance to enroll in universities that collaborate with the government. For instance, high-achieving senior high school graduates can be referred to Sekolah Garuda or other official schools.

“For example, high-achieving senior high school graduates from the People’s School can be directly referred to Sekolah Garuda or other official schools,” Romal added, according to Tribun Jatim.

The establishment of People’s Schools is intended to break the cycle of poverty within communities. The government also pledged to support the parents of enrolled students.

“We want to prove that these children can break free from poverty. We will also assist their families later,” Romal promised. “Their children can study peacefully here, and we will empower their families so they can move up a class.”

The program highlights the government’s commitment to improving both educational access and family welfare.
