HARIANEXPRESS – Students in Bogor held a demonstration at Alun-alun Kabupaten Bogor on Tuesday (18/08/2026), demanding justice for the people and the fulfillment of national promises.
The protest, initiated by Serikat Mahasiswa Bogor Raya, centered on the theme of ‘reflection of Indonesian Republic independence.’ Participants declared that ‘Kabupaten Bogor is not yet independent,’ using the movement to voice fundamental concerns in their region.
The call for the protest was disseminated through the official social media accounts of Serikat Mahasiswa Bogor Raya on Monday (17/08/2026). Mass gatherings at Alun-alun Kabupaten Bogor began at 13:00 WIB.
“Ketika tanah rakyat masih dipersoalkan, suara warga dibungkam, dan kepentingan rakyat kalah oleh kuasa modal, maka kemerdekaan belum selesai,” ujar Serikat Mahasiswa Bogor Raya.
This criticism specifically highlighted ongoing disputes over people’s land, efforts to silence community voices, and the dominance of capital interests. These factors, according to the students, hinder the realization of true independence in the region.
Students emphasized their primary objectives for taking to the streets as a concrete manifestation of their demands.
“Kita turun untuk menagih janji republik: tanah untuk rakyat, keadilan untuk rakyat, dan Bogor yang benar-benar merdeka,” bunyi seruan aksi tersebut.
Similar student demonstrations were also planned to take place in Jakarta on the same day. This indicates that the issues raised resonate broadly at a national level.
