HARIANEXPRESS – The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has deployed its prominent vessel, Kapal ADRI 92, from Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, to assist East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) after a devastating earthquake. This crucial operation follows a magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the region on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Under the direct command of Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, the ship carries 70 tons of humanitarian aid and essential medical personnel. The mission aims to accelerate disaster response and provide sustained support to the affected communities.

TNI AD’s Swift Response to NTT Earthquake Disaster

The powerful earthquake that severely impacted NTT on August 15, 2026, prompted a rapid and coordinated response from the Indonesian Army. This swift action demonstrates the nation’s commitment to supporting its citizens in times of crisis.

Under the leadership of General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, the deployment of Kapal ADRI 92, also identified as ADRI XCII BM, marks a significant phase in the post-disaster recovery efforts. The vessel’s departure signifies a well-calculated humanitarian operation designed to address urgent needs in the field.

A Floating Hospital and Extensive Aid Cargo

Kapal ADRI 92, operating as a dedicated hospital ship, departed from the Central Water Transport Unit (Satangair) of the Army Supply Center in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. This departure took place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

The vessel is well-equipped with comprehensive medical facilities, including patient beds, six doctors, and six nurses, prepared to offer intensive medical services. It is scheduled to remain on standby off the NTT coast for approximately 20 days.

The ship transports a substantial 70 tons of diverse humanitarian aid, encompassing vital staple foods such as 32.5 tons of rice, 4,000 bottles of cooking oil, and 1,140 boxes of instant noodles. Additionally, it carries essential items including 1,997 boxes of baby milk, 672 boxes of baby porridge, sanitary pads, and baby diapers.

To support emergency infrastructure, the cargo includes 100 water tanks with capacities ranging from 1,100 to 1,200 liters, 12 to 13 power generators, and 30 sets of multipurpose tents. Furthermore, 900 folding beds and 50 drums of fuel (Pertalite and diesel) are aboard the vessel.

Ensuring Distribution and Mobility

Recognizing the challenge of distributing aid to isolated affected areas, TNI AD included five units of trucks and two units of ambulances with Kapal ADRI 92. These vehicles are integral to the mission’s success.

These tactical vehicles are specifically tasked with enhancing the mobility of soldiers and volunteers, guaranteeing the smooth distribution of logistics, and facilitating medical evacuations in difficult-to-reach locations.

Continuous Monitoring and Phased Strategy

The Indonesian Army’s commitment to this humanitarian mission is underpinned by continuous situation analysis and a carefully planned, phased strategy. This approach allows for adaptive and effective disaster response.

General Maruli Simanjuntak affirmed the constant vigilance of the Army, highlighting their proactive engagement. He stated:

“So, we from the Army have actually been monitoring developments there hour by hour.”

General Maruli explained that the TNI AD’s humanitarian operation unfolds in measured stages. During the initial emergency response phase, the primary focus was on ensuring smooth evacuation processes and securing victims in displacement camps with guaranteed food availability.

After the critical first phase, TNI AD continues to conduct ongoing evaluations to identify the most needed types of equipment and supplies for the survivors. This ensures that assistance remains relevant and impactful.

Proactive Measures for Long-Term Water Security

Beyond immediate emergency relief, General Maruli has outlined a comprehensive strategy for the next two to three months, recognizing the region’s susceptibility to clean water shortages. This long-term vision aims to build resilience in the affected areas. [cite: Original Source]

As a strategic and more permanent intervention, TNI AD will not only send water tanks but also deploy a specialized team for groundwater drilling in identified locations. The Army Chief of Staff believes that clean water supply will be a major challenge for displaced persons in disaster-stricken areas. [cite: Original Source]

General Maruli underscored the lasting impact of these efforts, stating:

“We will soon start at which points we will drill later, and that will also be used by them continuously after this disaster.”

These newly drilled water points are expected to serve not only as a crucial resource during the emergency response but also to become vital permanent infrastructure for the NTT community long after the recovery period. Additionally, TNI AD is preparing to send Starlink devices for communication, alongside water towers, hoes, and shovels, addressing various essential but often overlooked smaller needs in the field.

The comprehensive deployment of Kapal ADRI 92, along with its full logistical support and personnel, embodies the TNI AD’s core philosophy: to be on the front lines when the people call. From ensuring safe evacuations to providing sustainable clean water access, the Army is committed to assisting the people of NTT in their journey to recovery.
