HARIANEXPRESS – As many as 127 child inmates at the Special Correctional Facility for Children (LPKA) Class I Blitar, East Java, received sentence reductions in conjunction with Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day. Nine of these child inmates were immediately released after their sentences concluded. The reductions were granted to those who met the stipulated requirements.
Sentence Reductions for Good Behavior
Jaka Prihatin, the Head of LPKA Class I Blitar, stated on Monday in Blitar that the sentence reductions were given to child inmates who had met the specified criteria. He confirmed that 127 child inmates received remission, with nine qualifying for General Remission II, leading to their immediate release.
“For remission, there are about 127 child inmates who received remission. For general remission II, there are nine people, so today they are also declared free or returned to their families,” Prihatin said.
These nine child inmates were allowed to return to their families promptly after completing the necessary administrative procedures. This process ensures a smooth transition back into society for those who have completed their rehabilitation.
Bupati Blitar Emphasizes Rehabilitation and Future
Meanwhile, Rijanto, the Regent of Blitar, highlighted that the sentence reduction signifies more than just a reduced term of imprisonment. It serves as an acknowledgment of the child inmates’ good behavior, discipline, and willingness to change for the better.
“This period of rehabilitation does not determine their entire future. What determines it is the willingness to change, the seriousness in learning, and the courage to start a better life,” Rijanto stated.
He encouraged the child inmates to view their time in rehabilitation as an opportunity to improve themselves, gain knowledge, hone skills, and plan for their future. The regent also affirmed the Blitar Regency Government’s dedication to supporting the rehabilitation efforts at LPKA.
This commitment aims to ensure that child inmates can become independent, productive, and valuable members of society upon their return. The formal notification of the sentence reductions was issued at LPKA Class I Blitar to all eligible child inmates.
