HARIANEXPRESS – PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) held natural gas safety education for residents in Deltasari Indah, Sidoarjo, and Griya Permata Ijen, Mojokerto, on Sunday (3/8/2026). This initiative aims to ensure safe and efficient network use.
The utilization of the natural gas network (jargas) in Perumahan Deltasari Indah, Sidoarjo, has seen high adoption, with approximately 478 out of 530 houses currently using gas for daily needs. PGN is continuously strengthening education for the community regarding natural gas safety, customer service, meter reading, and procedures for handling disturbances.
This educational activity specifically targeted residents of RW 9 Perumahan Deltasari Indah, Sidoarjo, on Sunday (3/8/2026), coinciding with the 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebrations. On the same day, a similar event was also conducted at Griya Permata Ijen, Mojokerto.
Pjs. Area Head Sidoarjo PGN Sales and Operation Region III (SOR III), Nurdiansyah, noted the high jargas usage in Deltasari, coupled with the community’s proactive engagement in seeking information about services and safety aspects. “Di RW 9 ini warga sudah banyak yang menggunakan gas, lebih banyak daripada RW yang lain di perumahan ini. Kemudian warganya sangat proaktif bertanya. Ketika ada petugas PGN, mereka antusias menghubungi atau bertanya terhadap permasalahan gas yang terjadi di perumahan mereka,” ujar Nurdiansyah.
During the event, residents engaged directly with PGN officials to discuss safe jargas usage methods, necessary steps in case of disturbances, installation mechanisms for new customers, and meter reading. PGN clarified that jargas for residential customers is distributed at a low pressure of approximately 0.03 bar, adhering to jargas standards.
Natural gas is lighter than air, causing it to move upwards and disperse if released. Nevertheless, customers are advised to regularly check their gas installations and equipment, taking immediate safety measures and contacting official PGN service channels if they detect a gas smell or any indication of a problem.
PGN also provided instructions on meter reading, which can be done periodically by PGN officers or independently by customers each month through the PGN Mobile application. This feature offers convenience for customers to actively monitor and report their natural gas consumption.
Even residents who have not yet installed jargas showed significant interest, inquiring about installation procedures, safety features, and how natural gas can be utilized for household and business needs. Bagio, a Deltasari resident, praised the direct socialization for enhancing public understanding of jargas. “Soal keamanan banyak yang tidak paham dan mengerti. Dengan adanya sosialisasi ini bagus sekali, masyarakat dan warga lebih senang lagi. Kalau paham pasti akan banyak yang tertarik gunakan gas PGN karena lebih murah dan lebih aman,” kata Bagio.
PGN also organized an education event at Griya Permata Ijen, Mojokerto, on the same day, integrating it with an Arts Festival and Healthy Walk as part of the independence celebrations. This initiative aimed to bring PGN services closer to the community while explaining the benefits, usage procedures, and safety aspects of jargas.
Nurdiansyah confirmed the simultaneous events. “Pada hari ini saja ada dua tempat, di Perumahan Deltasari Indah ini, di RW 9, kemudian ada di Perumahan Griya Permata Ijen (GPI) di Mojokerto,” kata Nurdiansyah.
PGN emphasizes that direct education is vital, enabling the public to understand not only the advantages of natural gas but also safety precautions, equipment handling, disturbance response, meter reading, and service mechanisms.
Moving forward, PGN intends to continue similar activities in other service regions, including Jombang and various areas within Sidoarjo. This commitment underscores PGN’s dedication to improving public understanding and maintaining the safety and reliability of jargas services for its customers.
