HARIANEXPRESS – The Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the role of midwives, ensuring affordable, comfortable, and trusted services for Indonesian women. Dr. Ade Jubaedah S.Keb, Bdn, MM, MKM, General Chairwoman of the Central Board of IBI.
The statement was delivered during the Annual Scientific Meeting of Midwives 2024 in Jakarta. A primary focus of the association is to position women as central subjects in healthcare services.
Dr. Ade Jubaedah highlighted the critical role of midwives as companions throughout every stage of a woman’s life. This comprehensive support spans from pre-pregnancy, childbirth, and infancy, extending to monitoring child development until preschool age.
The constant availability and close relationships with midwives foster a vital sense of security and motivation for women. Such dedicated efforts are crucial in significantly reducing maternal mortality rates (AKI), infant mortality rates (AKB), and addressing stunting issues across Indonesia.
Data from the 2018 Basic Health Research indicates a high level of trust among women towards midwives. Approximately 82.5 percent of women’s overall health services are provided by midwives.
Notably, midwives facilitate 67 percent of pregnancy examinations and an equal 67 percent of delivery processes. Furthermore, they are responsible for 76 percent of all contraceptive services provided to women.
IBI is continuously working to enhance the quality of midwifery services through various initiatives. One significant effort is a collaboration with DKT Indonesia for professional development programs.
These programs offer enhanced competency training and provisions for midwives in diverse practice settings. This includes independent midwife practices, Puskesmas (community health centers), and hospitals nationwide.
Midwives currently face various challenges in maintaining quality services amidst dynamic health regulations in Indonesia. Increasingly stringent healthcare service standards demand continuous capacity and competency improvements from all practitioners.

Tantangan dalam mematuhi standar layanan kesehatan yang lebih ketat harus diimbangi dengan peningkatan kapasitas dan kompetensi Bidan, serta memastikan bahwa layanan kesehatan tetap terjangkau bagi seluruh masyarakat.
