HARIANEXPRESS – Hulu Sungai Selatan (HSS) Deputy Regent, Suriani, emphasized the critical need to cultivate a child-friendly ecosystem as a foundation for building the nation’s golden generation. This call to action was delivered during a joint government assembly coinciding with the commemoration of National Children’s Day (HAN) 2026, held at the HSS Regent’s Office Courtyard on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

Fostering a Secure and Empowered Future Generation

Deputy Regent Suriani urged all societal elements and policymakers to reinforce their commitment to establishing an environment that is safe, comfortable, and supportive for children’s developmental growth. This, she stated, is paramount in the endeavor to achieve a brilliant future for the nation.

Safeguarding Children’s Rights in the Real and Digital Worlds

In her address, conveying the official message from the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) of the Republic of Indonesia, Suriani highlighted the theme for HAN 2026: “Love Children, Protect, and Build the Future.” This theme serves as a reminder that every child possesses the right to be respected, heard, and involved in development processes.

The government continues to champion child protection movements against various threats. These include physical and psychological violence, exploitation, neglect of rights, discrimination, bullying in both physical and digital realms, and child marriage practices. Suriani asserted that the protection and fulfillment of children’s rights represent a strategic investment for a progressive nation.

“The protection and fulfillment of children’s rights are the best and most strategic investments in building the foundation of an advanced, just, and sustainable nation,” Suriani firmly stated in her address.

The Central Role of Family in Child Development

Deputy Regent Suriani also underscored the pivotal role of the family unit in safeguarding and nurturing children. Parents are encouraged to prepare their children from an early age to possess global competitiveness.

She motivated parents to encourage their children to pursue higher education, including opportunities in state-funded educational institutions. Quality education, discipline, character building, and a strong spirit of learning are essential provisions for children.

Concluding her remarks, Suriani extended Selamat Hari Anak Nasional (Happy National Children’s Day) and expressed her hope that the youth of HSS would grow into healthy, intelligent individuals with noble morals and strong character. She also prayed for more HSS youth to achieve success in state-funded institutions, serve the nation, and become the pride of the region.
