HARIANXPRESS – To commemorate Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, the East Java Provincial Government is offering free Trans Jatim public transportation services on August 17, 2026.

Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa announced this one-day complimentary service will be available across all Trans Jatim corridors in the Gerbangkertasusila and Malang Raya regions, excluding the Trans Jatim Luxury service. The initiative aims to appreciate the community and encourage public transport use.

Free Rides for Independence Day

Governor Khofifah stated this free service reflects the East Java Provincial Government’s appreciation for its citizens. It also represents an effort to promote public transportation usage.

“This is a gift of independence for the people of East Java. Especially on August 17, please use Trans Jatim for free across all Gerbangkertasusila and Malang Raya corridors, except for Trans Jatim Luxury,” Khofifah said.

Connecting Communities Through Public Service

Governor Khofifah stated that independence is more than recalling heroes’ struggles; it should manifest through public services offering tangible daily benefits.

“Independence must be felt in our daily lives. One way is through the ease for people to move, reach various activities, and connect with each other,” Khofifah stated.

Khofifah emphasized public transportation’s crucial role in supporting community activities, providing access to workplaces, schools, universities, public service centers, economic hubs, and social spaces.

The East Java Provincial Government remains committed to enhancing Trans Jatim services. The goal is to establish it as a safe, comfortable, affordable, and integrated transportation option.

Promoting Sustainable Mobility

She hopes the free fare policy encourages new users to try the public transportation service and experience its convenience firsthand.

“On August 17, please try it. Let us all feel together that public transportation can be a comfortable and affordable mobility choice,” she said.

Developing public transportation is key to building a sustainable transport system, beyond improving mobility access. Increased public transport use helps reduce private vehicle reliance, ease traffic, and support emission reductions.

“Let’s make public transportation a part of a safer, more comfortable, efficient, and sustainable mobility lifestyle,” Khofifah remarked.

The spirit of “Merdeka untuk Bergerak, Merdeka untuk Terhubung” aligns with strengthening inter-regional connectivity. Khofifah urged the public to utilize the free Trans Jatim service with family and friends, celebrating independence while maintaining public facilities.

“Let’s celebrate independence with joy, togetherness, and the spirit of maintaining our public facilities,” she concluded.
