HARIANEXPRESS, JAKARTA — Teaching and learning activities at Sekolah Islam Harapan Ibu (SIHI) in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, continued as normal amid an ongoing police investigation into the discovery of hundreds of weapon-like items within the foundation’s premises on Saturday (Aug. 8, 2026).
The latest update from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has also corrected earlier reports claiming that 995 firearms had been found at the location. Police said a total of 996 weapon-like items were seized. Of that number, 995 were classified as air guns, while one was identified as a Franchi SPAS-15 firearm chambered in 12-gauge ammunition.
According to police, the 995 air guns consisted of four 4.5-millimeter air rifles, 215 4.5-millimeter air pistols, and 776 air revolvers of the same caliber. All of the items have been secured for further examination.
The clarification is significant because initial reports had described the entire cache as firearms. Police are still investigating the origin, ownership, documentation, and purpose behind the storage of the items within the foundation’s compound.
On Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, educational activities at the school were reported to be continuing as usual. Students attended school activities, while access to the premises was controlled by internal security personnel. The foundation also said inspections of several rooms were conducted outside class hours to avoid disrupting the learning process.
The foundation said it had been in communication with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), and the Jakarta provincial administration. The coordination took place as efforts continued to ensure that educational activities remained unaffected during the investigation.
Investigation Began Following July Discovery
The investigation began after a number of items were discovered in a room linked to the foundation’s management. Police conducted a crime-scene examination on July 10, 2026. A report was subsequently filed on July 15, and the investigation has continued since then.
On Aug. 5, 2026, officers found several additional items during a subsequent inspection, including a number of airsoft guns as well as substances suspected to be marijuana and methamphetamine. The status of the suspected narcotics remains subject to further examination by the relevant authorities.
Information regarding a room previously described as a “bunker” was also later corrected. The foundation subsequently stated that police had entered the room on Aug. 5 and found no additional evidence inside. The foundation acknowledged that its earlier information regarding the contents of the room had been inaccurate.
Police Examine Import Documents
The latest development on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, showed that investigators had obtained import permit documents related to the 995 air guns. According to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, the documents were linked to PT Lokta Karya Perbakin and a former chairman of the foundation identified by the initials IWD.
Police have scheduled IWD for questioning the following week to determine the country of origin, timing, and purpose of the imports, as well as to compare the number of items found with the relevant manifest. The consistency between the documentation and the physical items will be among the factors examined in determining their legal status.
Meanwhile, the single Franchi SPAS-15 firearm was reportedly registered under the name of an individual identified by the initials DS. Police said their records showed that DS died in 2020, prompting authorities to secure the firearm for further examination of its ownership status.
With these developments, the phrase “995 firearms” no longer reflects the latest findings of the investigation. Based on the most recent statement from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, the more accurate description is the discovery of 996 weapon-like items, consisting of 995 air guns and one firearm.
The investigation remains ongoing. As a result, any conclusions regarding legality, ownership responsibility, or possible criminal violations will depend on the official findings of the police investigation. While the legal process continues, educational activities and student safety should remain proportionately separate from the legal issues currently under investigation.
