HARIANEXPRESS – Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago has affirmed that the security situation across Indonesia remains secure and under control. He advised the public not to be easily swayed by information circulating on social media regarding potential unrest.
This statement was delivered by Djamari following a coordination meeting held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The meeting involved the TNI Commander, National Police Chief, Attorney General, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency at the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs office in Jakarta.
National Security Situation Remains Conducive
Djamari noted that community activities in various regions are continuing normally. Crowded areas, including traditional markets, are also observed to be safe without significant security disturbances.
He mentioned that the government, along with security forces, is continuously monitoring and coordinating to maintain national stability. Any developments, including provocative issues in the digital space, are confirmed to be under government handling.
“All developments occurring domestically are still under our control,” Djamari stated.
Public Urged Not to Spread Provocative Content
Djamari reminded the public not to participate in spreading unverified content. This particularly applies to information that could instill fear and public panic.
The dissemination of slander, hatred, and provocative narratives is considered to have the potential to disrupt public order and security. He added that the government will trace individuals who spread false information concerning national security disturbances.
If such content is proven to constitute a criminal offense, law enforcement officials will take action according to applicable regulations. Nevertheless, Djamari assured that the law enforcement process would be conducted judiciously.
Legal steps will primarily be taken if the spread of false information has disrupted broad public interests or has the potential to incite actions that endanger public order. This appeal also underscores the importance of the community’s role in maintaining a healthy digital space.
The public is asked to verify the source and truthfulness of all information before sharing it through social media or messaging applications.
Mall Fence Installation Unrelated to Riot Issues
On the same occasion, Djamari also addressed the installation of security fences at several shopping centers in Jakarta, Surabaya, and other cities. He refuted the notion that these fence installations were a measure by the government or mall managers to anticipate riots.
According to him, this policy is an internal decision made by each mall management to ensure area security. The issue of fence installation in some areas has also been handled by local governments.
Therefore, the public is requested not to link these security policies to unconfirmed national security disruption issues.
Government Does Not Prohibit Demonstrations
Djamari further asserted that the government does not forbid the public from expressing opinions through demonstrations. Protests are part of citizens’ rights, provided they are conducted in an orderly, peaceful manner, and do not disrupt public interests.
However, the government reminded participants not to engage in anarchic actions, damage public facilities, or commit other acts that harm society. According to Djamari, freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly.
Security forces will continue to prioritize a measured approach in maintaining order. They will also ensure that the public’s right to express aspirations remains protected.
The government invites all segments of society to remain calm, avoid being provoked by unverified information, and collectively safeguard national security and order.
