HARIANEXPRESS – The Kediri Regency Government organized a Cheap Food Movement (GPM) at An-Nuur Great Mosque in Pare to maintain price stability and ensure food availability for the community. The event took place on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, drawing hundreds of residents.

By 08:00 WIB, a significant crowd had already gathered at the location, eager to purchase essential goods at prices below market rates. Long queues were visible even before the event officially commenced at 08:30 WIB.

The Kediri Regency Food Security and Livestock Agency (DKPP) prepared approximately 4 tons of SPHP rice for this GPM, double the usual stock due to high public enthusiasm. In addition to rice, other basic necessities such as sugar, cooking oil, red onions, garlic, and chicken eggs were also available.

Various products from Kediri Regency MSMEs were also featured, including processed foods, frozen food, meatballs, siomay, various chips, snacks, handmade products, clothing, and shoes.

Budi Setyo Kurniawan, Food Security Analyst at DKPP Kediri Regency, stated that the Cheap Food Movement aims to suppress the still relatively high prices of staple foods in the market.

“Today, SPHP rice from Bulog is available at Rp57,000 per 5-kilogram package or about Rp11,400 per kilogram,” ujar Budi Setyo Kurniawan.

According to Budi, the commodities sold came directly from producers or government partners, resulting in more affordable prices compared to the market. Cooking oil was sourced directly from distributors, and sugar was obtained through collaboration with the Tebu Consumer Cooperative (KTSGN).

Red and white onions were supplied by MSME actors partnering with farmers, while chicken eggs were provided at lower prices directly from breeders through the Canda Bhirawa Movement Business Agency (BG).

He explained that market prices for several commodities remain quite high; for instance, premium rice is around Rp19,500 per kilogram, and sugar is typically above Rp16,000 per kilogram. Through the Cheap Food Movement, the community could purchase sugar for Rp15,000 per kilogram, and SPHP rice was sold significantly below market prices.

Budi added that throughout July and August 2026, the Cheap Food Movement has been conducted at 18 different locations across Kediri Regency. Cumulatively, from January to early August 2026, the program has been implemented 39 times as a strategy for regional inflation control.

“Specifically in Pare today, we increased the rice stock to 4 tons. Usually, it’s only about 2 tons, but seeing the high demand from the community, we added supply so more residents could get affordable rice,” ujar Budi Setyo Kurniawan.

Meanwhile, Pare Sub-district Head Habib Adnan lauded the Cheap Food Movement, noting it significantly assists residents in obtaining essential goods at more affordable prices. He expressed hope that such activities would continue, ensuring the community’s basic needs remain met at reasonable costs.

Fatmawati, a resident from Langenharjo Village, Plemahan District, intentionally arrived early with friends to purchase SPHP rice. She bought two sacks at once, finding the price much cheaper than in stores or markets. “Hopefully, events like this can continue,” ucap Fatmawati.
