HARIANEXPRESS – A total of 341 inmates at the Class II B Correctional Facility (Lapas) Blitar, East Java, were granted remission in conjunction with the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence on August 17, 2026.
This sentence reduction was awarded to prisoners who met specific administrative and substantive criteria, alongside demonstrating good behavior during their incarceration.
Remission for Good Conduct and Eligibility
Head of Lapas Class II B Blitar, Iswandi, explained that the remission is a reward for inmates who adhere to regulations. He confirmed the recipients fulfilled all necessary requirements.
“Remisi ini diberikan kepada warga binaan yang telah memenuhi persyaratan, baik secara administratif maupun substantif, serta menunjukkan perilaku baik selama menjalani masa pidana,” kata Iswandi.
According to data as of August 17, 2026, at 07:00 WIB, the Lapas Class II B Blitar houses 540 inmates, comprising 421 convicts and 119 detainees.
Of the 341 inmates who received remission, nine were granted General Remission (RU) II, leading to their immediate release after their sentences were reduced.
The duration of the sentence reductions varied among the inmates, ranging from one to six months.
The recipients included 111 inmates involved in narcotics cases, 66 in child protection cases, 88 in health-related cases, and 76 in general criminal cases.
Reasons for Non-Eligibility
Not all inmates qualified for remission due to various reasons. Some failed integration, were listed in Register F, or were still serving fine penalties.
Other inmates had not yet met the minimum six-month period of their sentence to be eligible.
The key requirements for receiving remission include completing administrative processes, maintaining good conduct, participating in rehabilitation programs and risk assessments, and having served a minimum of six months of their sentence.
