HARIANEXPRESS – The Blitar Ethnic National Carnival (BEN Carnival) returns for its fifth edition, adopting a night carnival concept to commemorate Indonesian Independence Day, (23/8/2026).
This annual carnival introduces a new concept this year, transforming into a night carnival to offer a fresher and more captivating outdoor stage experience for the public. At least 40 artistic and traditional performances representing 34 provinces across Indonesia are presented, reinforcing the message of unity in diversity.
In addition to the shift to evening hours, the organizers have also reconfigured the area layout to enhance visitor comfort. Boundary fences have been shortened, allowing attendees a more unobstructed and closer view of the performers.
“We continue to innovate on the display and layout. This year, the use of boundary fences is made shorter so that the public can watch the performers more freely and closely,” said Blitar Mayor, Syauqul Muhibbin.
Despite regional budget efficiency policies, the Mayor affirmed that programs directly interacting with the public are not affected by budget cuts. Efficiency measures are exclusively focused on internal bureaucratic operations.
Cultural activities, public entertainment, and social safety net programs remain optimized. The government prioritizes building togetherness between the government and the community.
“The essence of government is to build togetherness between the government and the community. Efficiency is carried out internally within the government, but for agendas that provide entertainment and community assistance, we remain all out,” he asserted.
To maintain the quality of the complex performances, participant involvement extends beyond local Blitar potential. The event embraces artists and talents from across regions.
This collaborative approach ensures the specific needs of the diverse Nusantara dances and performing arts are met. The Blitar City Government plans to extend the carnival route in upcoming editions to accommodate the continuously growing audience capacity.
Through the consistent organization of the BEN Carnival, Blitar further solidifies its identity as a cultural city. It also establishes itself as a friendly tourist destination for both local and national visitors.
