HARIANEXPRESS – SpaceX is preparing for a major milestone in the development of Starship by targeting its first orbital flight. The company founded by Elon Musk has scheduled the 14th test flight for September 22, 2026, following 13 previous suborbital missions.
Mission Objectives and Starlink Payload
The mission serves as a major test for both the Starship spacecraft and its Super Heavy booster. Starship is expected to enter Earth orbit before completing its mission with a landing in the Pacific Ocean.
SpaceX also plans to deploy 26 Starlink V3 satellites during the upcoming test flight. These next-generation satellites aim to increase network capacity while marking the first Starship flight to carry a commercial payload.
Reuters reported that the flight is projected to last nearly 10 hours. Starship is expected to reach an altitude of about 275 kilometers and circle Earth roughly six times before heading toward a landing zone in the Pacific Ocean west of Chile, as noted.
Reusable Rocket Development and Progress
An orbital flight represents an important step in the effort to develop a fully reusable launch system. During the 13th test flight in July 2026, Starship achieved several objectives even though the Super Heavy booster experienced a hard landing in the ocean.
SpaceX subsequently made further developments ahead of the next test. Starship is designed to transport humans and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and potentially destinations farther into space.
The September 22 launch remains subject to regulatory approval and technical conditions. If it proceeds as planned, the mission could mark another major step in the development of a fully reusable spacecraft.
