Indonesian Crew Freed From Somali Pirates Return Home
Four Indonesian crew members who experienced a hostage situation involving Somali pirates returned to Indonesia on Tuesday evening. The individuals arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, around 6:41 p.m. local time.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Sugiono stated that medical and psychological treatment has been arranged for the victims. Officials including Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir welcomed the group at the airport VVIP terminal alongside family members and relatives.
Care and Institutional Coordination
Sugiono emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the citizens following their ordeal.
“I want to ensure that the next stage of this process, including healthcare for our fellow citizens, can be carried out properly,”
Sugiono said at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang on Tuesday, according to Antara.
The affected individuals will undergo comprehensive treatment to support their physical and mental rehabilitation.
“Medical and psychological care has been prepared so that the victims can fully recover, both physically and mentally,”
he noted, as reported by Antara.
Rescue Operations and Stakeholder Involvement
The successful repatriation involved coordination across several government bodies and related institutions. Agencies participating in the process included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transportation, Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, and the Indonesian Embassy in Yaoundé.
During the arrival event, one of the victims’ parents experienced a fainting episode upon seeing their child return safely from the captivity. Sugiono also expressed appreciation to all government stakeholders who contributed to the rescue and repatriation efforts.
