HARIANEXPRESS – The Indonesian government is proceeding with the establishment of the Indonesian International Financial Center (PFII), following the approval of its legal framework by the House of Representatives. Bali has been designated as the primary location for this significant project, as directed by President Prabowo Subianto. Jakarta is prepared to serve as a transitional operational center during the initial phase.

CEO of the Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, disclosed this development at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, July 24, 2026. He highlighted that President Subianto urged immediate follow-up on the instructions. The plan is to establish the center in Bali.

Preparation Period and Transitional Operations

Rosan explained that developing the international financial center in Bali will require approximately 2-3 years of preparation before it can fully operate as an international standard financial zone. During this transitional period, the government intends to operate the financial center first in Jakarta.

The development will then continue until it expands to Bali. This phased approach allows for thorough preparation of all institutional apparatus, infrastructure, and regional governance.

“The President asked for the instructions to be followed up immediately, and indeed the plan is for it to be built in Bali,” Rosan stated.

This strategy ensures a mature setup before the international financial center becomes fully operational in Bali. The government is also working on various institutional aspects.

Institutional Readiness and Investor Response

Preparations include appointing a regional governor and managers who will be responsible for operating the international financial center. Rosan further noted a very positive response from investors regarding the plan to establish the PFII.

He recently met with 11 investors in Bali, including those from family offices and other investment entities. The strong positive feedback indicates significant interest in the financial center’s presence.

The current scheme allows for the financial center to be established in Jakarta during the transition. This will precede further development in both Jakarta and Bali.

“Perhaps it will be made first in Jakarta during this transition period before it will be further developed in Jakarta and also in Bali,” he explained.
