HARIANEXPRESS – The capital of Blitar Regency, Kanigoro District, still lacks a public high school (SMA Negeri) despite holding its capital status for over ten years, (19/8/2026).
This significant gap has prompted the Blitar Regency Regional Parliament (DPRD) Commission IV to fully support a proposal for the establishment of such a facility.
Sugeng Suroso, Chairman of DPRD Blitar Commission IV, affirmed the commission’s strong backing for the plan to build a state high school in Kanigoro. He emphasized the importance of complete facilities in the regency capital.
The proposal was initiated by the Ki Demang Community, a local citizens’ group. Their advocacy highlights the need for a comprehensive educational infrastructure in the area.
“As the regency capital, Kanigoro is the showcase or face of Blitar Regency. Its facilities must be complete, including educational facilities,” ujar Sugeng Suroso.
While the DPRD provides strong support, the authority to establish senior secondary schools (SLTA) ultimately rests with the East Java Provincial Government. Despite this, DPRD Commission IV is actively taking steps to facilitate the project.
The commission plans to hold a follow-up hearing dedicated to preparing the land for the proposed public high school. This upcoming discussion will focus specifically on identifying and securing a suitable location for the new educational institution.
