HARIANEXPRESS – Economic challenges are a significant factor contributing to divorce in Blitar, East Java. From January to August 2026, the Blitar Religious Court registered 287 divorce cases directly linked to economic problems.
These cases are part of a larger total of 1,334 divorce filings recorded during the same period.
Economic Pressures Drive Divorce Rates in Blitar
Data from the Blitar Religious Court indicates that financial difficulties are not merely about the inability to meet daily needs. When income fails to match family requirements or spousal obligations are not met, economic issues can escalate into prolonged household conflicts.
This financial pressure is identified as a major factor in the high number of divorce cases.
Humas (Public Relations) of the Blitar Religious Court, Ahmad Syaukani, stated that economic problems within a household are closely tied to the family’s capacity to meet its needs and fulfill financial obligations.
“Persoalan ekonomi dalam rumah tangga berkaitan dengan kemampuan memenuhi kebutuhan keluarga dan kewajiban nafkah. Ketika kebutuhan rumah tangga tidak seimbang dengan kemampuan ekonomi, kondisi tersebut dapat berkembang menjadi konflik berkepanjangan hingga berujung perceraian,” ungkap Humas Pengadilan Agama Blitar, Ahmad Syaukani.
Understanding the Financial Strain on Households
Ahmad Syaukani clarified that economic problems do not always signify a complete lack of income for one partner. Instead, issues arise when available income is insufficient to cover household needs.
This also includes situations where spousal financial obligations are not fulfilled as they should be.
Other Factors Contributing to Divorce
Beyond economic concerns, the Blitar Religious Court also noted other significant factors in divorce cases. Infidelity was linked to 52 cases.
Domestic violence (KDRT) accounted for 33 cases. Various other issues, such as gambling, spousal abandonment, and habitual drinking, also led to divorces.
These varied backgrounds illustrate the complex nature of divorce cases in Blitar. However, economic problems emerge as a direct and impactful factor on couples’ ability to sustain daily household life.
When family income cannot keep pace with needs, financial pressure can affect marital relationships. Communication and agreement on managing family finances are crucial to prevent these issues from escalating into disputes.
Financial stability is not solely defined by the amount of income. The ability to manage expenditures, maintain openness about financial conditions, and ensure the fulfillment of spousal obligations are also vital aspects of family life.
