The regional logistics agency, Bulog Sumsel-Babel, successfully absorbed 118,460 tons of unhusked paddy (GKP) equivalent to rice by the end of June 2026. This achievement represents 68 percent of its ambitious target set for the entire year.
The total paddy absorption target for Bulog Sumsel-Babel throughout 2026 is stipulated at 172,682 tons, also equivalent to rice. This positive progress is vital for fortifying the government’s strategic food reserves.
Paddy absorption operations are actively underway across various key rice production centers in South Sumatra and Bangka Belitung during their respective harvest seasons. One notable location for these efforts is Tanjung Pasir Village, situated within the Pemulutan District of Ogan Ilir Regency.
Farmers in Tanjung Pasir utilize modern agricultural machinery to efficiently harvest their rice crops. Significantly, the land used for these paddy fields was previously cultivated as oil palm plantations, now repurposed for rice production.
Officials from Perum Bulog Kanwil Sumsel and Babel provided an update on the agency’s performance, emphasizing the substantial progress made toward their annual objectives.
“Hingga akhir Juni 2026, penyerapan gabah telah mencapai 118.460 ton setara beras atau sekitar 68 persen dari target 172.682 ton tahun ini,” stated officials from Perum Bulog Kanwil Sumsel dan Babel.
This strong realization serves as a critical foundation for Bulog as it endeavors to meet the remaining absorption target during the second half of 2026. The paddy absorption program is an essential component of Bulog’s strategy.
It aims to maintain stability in rice supply and prices while simultaneously guaranteeing a reliable market for farmers’ harvests. Moreover, these absorption activities offer crucial market certainty to farmers once their harvest period concludes.
Bulog Sumsel-Babel remains optimistic that the 2026 absorption target will be successfully achieved. This confidence stems from the ongoing harvest seasons in several paddy production centers across both provinces.
